In tissue bank operations, the same principles are followed as in blood donations. Like blood donations, tissue donations are done anonymously and voluntarily, and the donor does not get a compensation for the donation. A written consent is always needed from the patient or from a family member before the tissue can be procured and used. You can express your desire to be an organ and/or tissue donor by filling out an organ and tissue donor card.
The tissue donation coordinating in the tissue bank includes permission issues of the donors, donor testing and evaluation, and making the arrangements for the tissue harvesting. One of the most important things for providing safe tissues for clinical use is to test the donors and determine their health status.
